Junior Austin Gerber (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) broke free and scored late in regulation to lift the Keuka College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Alfred University Tuesday night in Alfred, N.Y.
Gerber's first game-winning goal of the season came with 4:52 remaining in regulation and snapped a 1-all tie as Keuka (4-3-1) held on for its second straight win.
Neither squad was able to score during the first 38 minutes of the non-conference contest until Keuka sophomore Jake Altman (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester) put the Storm on the scoreboard with his first career collegiate goal in the 39th minute.
The Storm went to halftime up 1-0 despite being outshot 9-4 by the Saxons (4-7). Alfred actually dominated in shots all game, including 10-2 in the second half and 19-6 for the contest, but Keuka made the most of its scoring opportunities.
Alfred's James Piombino knotted the score at one in the 64th minute, and the two schools played scoreless until Gerber's game-winner late in regulation.
Sophomore Preston Vick (Kendall, NY/Kendall) made four saves for the win.
The Storm travels to Lancaster Bible College for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) showdown at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
