Junior Austin Gerber (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) scored a goal and added an assist and freshman Leandro Curran (New York, NY/Westlake) added a goal to spark the Keuka College men's soccer team to a 2-2 overtime tie at Penn State-Abington Sunday afternoon.
Keuka (6-6-2, 1-5-1 NEAC) earned a draw despite being outshot 31-10, including 7-1 in the two overtime periods.
Taking on the first-place Nittany Lions (10-3-2, 6-0-2), Curran put the Storm on the board in the 35th minute. Gerber played a through ball inside the box for Curran, who scored into the right side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Abington tied the game in the 41st minute on a goal from Alex Martins, but Gerber gave the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead in the 49th minute.
Sophomore Matt Hey (Rushville, NY/Marcus Whitman) played a ball along the right sideline to Gerber, who beat his defender and scored into the left corner of the goal. It was Gerber's sixth score of the year.
Neither team scored again until Marco Paparo collected a blocked shot and scored in the 75th minute to knot the score at two.
Despite having four shots and three corner kicks in the first overtime, Abington did not score, as freshman Willie Romero (Jersey City, NJ/Union City) stopped every shot he faced. He finished with eight saves for Keuka, which has gone 2-0-1 in its last three contests.
The Storm, who are eliminated from postseason consideration, close out the regular season with a 1 p.m. game at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday.
