Second Half Surge Carries Men’s Lacrosse to Victory

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team outscored Elmira College 9-1 in the second half to secure a 13-3 victory over the Soaring Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

Keuka College (2-0) have a week off before their next game. They will host the College at Brockport next Saturday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Senior Tyler Skowronski helped lead the Keuka offense with six goals and an assist on Saturday. Four players, Matt Beebe, Zach Dempsey, Peter DiLaura, and Ryan Waldron each added a goal and an assist. Faceoff specialist Matt Mahalick went 11-16 at the X. On one of his wins, he broke out and scored for the Green and Gold. Also with goals on the afternoon was Andrew Burns and Dustin Springer. Jacob Wood made 6 saves in the victory.

Keuka College started the scoring early as freshman Ryan Waldron found the back of the net four minutes in. The Soaring Eagles would scored the next two goals to take the lead, but tallies by DiLaura and Skowronski game Keuka a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.

On the opening faceoff of the second quarter, Matt Mahalick got the win and turned that into a goal three seconds into the quarter. It would be the only goal of the frame as Keuka would enter the halftime break with a 4-2 advantage.

The Green and gold would open their lead up in the third with goals by Skowronski, Burns, and Depmsey. After an Elmira goal, Dustin Springer had the answer. The junior defender caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball, and broke out on goal with his long stick, finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season. After three quarters, Keuka led 8-3.

In the fourth, Matt Beebe scored eight seconds into the quarter. Tyler Skowronski removed any doubt from the game as he scored the next four goals to lead Keuka to the 13-3 victory.
