Freshman Ryan Piersimoni (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) carded a five-over par round of 75 as the Keuka College men's golf team opened the 2014 season with a third-place finish in the annual SUNY Cobleskill Fall Invitational.
Piersimoni finished in third place, four shots back of medalist Clark Leonelli (Cobleskill) as the Wolfpack shot 327 as a team Friday at the Canajoharie Country Club in Canajoharie, N.Y.
Cobleskill's "A" team won the team title with a score of 304, with Morrisville State (318) placing second. Keuka College and SUNY Canton tied for third, followed by Cobleskill's "B" team (344), Johnson State College (401) and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (413).
After Piersimoni, freshman Michael Parrow (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) also had an impressive debut on the par-70, 6,143-yard course. Parrow tied for 12th by shooting an 11-over round of 81.
Sophomore Harrison Sardella (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was one shot back with an 82, tied for 14th place out of 39 golfers.
Freshman Rory Doremus (Ilion, N.Y./Notre Dame) carded an 89 to place in a tie for 22nd, followed by classmate Flynn Scheib (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning West) (91) and sophomore Joe Petrie (Sanborn, N.Y./Buffalo State).
The Green and Gold return to action Monday, competing in the Oswego State Fall Invitational in Oswego, N.Y.
