ALFRED, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball team fell to hosts Alfred State on Saturday by the score of 84-74 in a non-conference matchup.
Keuka College enters their winter break with a 1-7 record. The Wolves will return to action in 2017. The first game of the new year will come on the road against North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Cazenovia.
Keuka College got out to an early lead against the Pioneers. A three pointer by Cliff Stevens posted the Wolves a 6-3 advantage five minutes into the contest. The Pioneers responded and slowly built a lead in the half. Alfred State led by as 12 points in the half, but Keuka College put together a run to close. Layups by Dylan Doupe and Cameron Winston, followed by a three by Greg Tyler narrowed the margin to five as Keuka closed the half on a 7-0 run. Alfred State remained ahead 33-28 at the break.
Keuka continued to cut into the lead in the second half. Early in the second, Greg Tyler was responsible for eight straight points for the Wolves as they cut the deficit to two, 42-40, following a three-pointer. After a Pioneer timeout, Cameron Winston forced a turnover with a steal and was fouled attacking the basket. His pair of free throws tied the game at 42-42 with 13 minutes left to play. Alfred State responded with a quick strike. In less than a minute and a half, the Pioneers went on a 10-0 run to regain their lead. The margin stayed in double-digits as Alfred State closed out the game, defeating Keuka College 84-74 on Saturday.
