Field Hockey Falls to Elmira

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Field Hockey team lost on Tuesday to the visiting Soaring Eagles of Elmira College at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex by the score of 3-0.

Elizabeth Sherman made 17 saves in goal for the Wolfpack. Alyssa Orsino led the offensive attack with a pair of shots on goal.

Keuka College now sits at 0-3 on the season. Elmira College improved their record to 1-3. The Green and Gold will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to play in the Wilson Invitational. Keuka will play Kean College on Saturday at 2pm in the opening game of the tournament.

Elmira College got on the board first on Tuesday. Atu Machika let a shot go from the top of the striking circle. The ball ricocheted off players and found its way to the back of the goal for the early 1-0 lead. Keuka attempted to answer quickly. Mackenzie Havens drove the ball down the right side of the field and to the end line. She cut in towards the goal, but her shot was saved by the Elmira keeper. The Soaring Eagles found the back of the goal a second time in the first half. Machika deflected in a shot with 10 minutes left in the half as Elmira carried the 2-0 lead into the break.

Elmira found their third goal just minutes into the second half. Again it was Machika deflecting a shot in for the hat trick. Keuka College continued to fight, however. Alyssa Orsino got a pair of shots off on goal, but both attempts were saved. The Wolfpack had five shots in total in the half. The offense continued to push as Keuka had 3 consecutive corners in a three minute span, but the Soaring Eagles were able to stop any attack as they went on to defeat Keuka College 3-0.
