SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Keuka College Cheerleading team finished in 4th place at the JamFest Cool Jam competition at the Oncenter in Syracuse, NY on Saturday, narrowly missing 3rd place by 0.07.
This was the team's first competition of the 2017 season. They competed against 6 other colleges including, Cortland State University, Mount Saint Mary's College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Jefferson Community College, SUNY Brockport, and Division II Gannon University.
The Wolves faced an unexpected challenge when a technical glitch caused their music to cut out halfway through their routine. "They never skipped a beat," said Head Coach Michelle Wojnar. "Coaches, supporters, and fans counted out loud to keep pace and the team completed their routine without an issue."
Even without music their dance scored a 9.43 out of 10, the highest dance score in the division.
"I am very proud of how this team has come together in the past few weeks, and especially how they handled a challenging situation. This is still a relatively new program, only in our third year as a competitive program, and we are already on par with many other collegiate programs."
Keuka College was ranked second to SUNY Brockport with their raw score of 87.04 (base score prior to any deductions), but due to some mistakes throughout the routine earned a final score of 84.29 that landed them in fourth place.
