Senior Cameron Hood and the Keuka College baseball team allowed six runs in the second inning and fell to the University of Rochester 8-2 Tuesday.

Junior Brett Fenton (Troy, N.Y./Hudson Valley CC) and freshman John Rizzo (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) each drove in a run, but the Keuka College baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision to the University of Rochester Tuesday afternoon on Towers Field in Rochester, N.Y.

Nine different student-athletes recorded a base hit for the Wolfpack (3-10). One big inning did in the Green and Gold, as Rochester (8-7) pushed across six runs in the second to seize control.

Keuka had the game's first scoring opportunity in the top of the first. Junior Billy McDermott (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on senior Jon Borchert's (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) two-out single up the middle.

But with runners on first and second, Rochester starter Luke Meyerson induced a groundout to end the threat.

Senior Cameron Hood (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) retired the Yellowjackets in order in the bottom of the inning, but the Wolfpack were held in check in the top of the second as the game remained scoreless.

Rochester exploded for six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Yellowjackets loaded the bases with one out and scored the first run on Sam Steele's RBI single up the middle.

Hood got a lineout for the second out, but the next three batters reached as Rochester used a single and two doubles to push across five runs for a 6-0 lead.

Junior Kyle Michaud (Elmira Heights, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) came on in relief and ended the inning thanks to a groundout.

Keuka got a run back in the fourth. Senior Jake Burachalk (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) singled and moved to second on a groundout. Freshman Brian Colbert (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) followed with a walk, and Rizzo lined a single into center field to get the Wolfpack on the board.

But the Green and Gold were held in check, and the deficit grew to 7-1 on an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore Ben Payton (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) led off the fifth with a single, moved to second on a single from freshman Alec Bowie (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and scored on Fenton's RBI single into right center field. But with runners on first and third with no outs, Myerson escaped the jam with two strikeouts and a line out.

Rochester added a run in the eighth to win its third straight.

Michaud allowed one unearned run on two hits in 3 1/3 solid innings of relief, while freshmen Ryan Lawrence (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), Josh Wang (Rush, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and Kevin Franz (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) combined for one run on four hits over the final three innings.

Keuka hosts North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn College on Saturday in a conference-opening doubleheader. The first game starts at 1 p.m., with game two slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
