GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference announced their 2016-17 Scholar-Athletes and Keuka College led the way with 85 selections.
Overall, between the 14 member schools and six affiliate schools, a conference-record 806 student-athletes were selected. The Wolves edged out Cazenovia College and Lancaster Bible College, who finished in a tie for second with 81 selections.
To earn North Eastern Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete, the student-athlete needs to maintain a 3.40 combined grade point average or higher for the fall and spring semesters.
The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team led with way with a 3.51 team grade point average. Nine of their 13 players were named scholar-athletes, a department leading 69%. The Women's Soccer team had the most selections with 14 members of the roster being named NEAC Scholar-Athletes.
Keuka College had eight student-athletes earn a perfect 4.00 for the 2016-17 academic year. Allison Ariola (Women's Soccer), Kayla Brown (Women's Volleyball), Brianna Coia (Field Hockey), Megan Geariety (Women's Golf), Bethany Pendl (Women's Cross Country), Alyssa Rex (Women's Volleyball), Suzanne Welch (Softball), and Megan Wilbur (Softball) all posted the perfect academic year.
Geariety's 4.00 GPA for the Women's Golf team led a strong showing of student-athletes who compete in non-NEAC sports. The Keuka College Dance team led with a 3.35 grade point average and the Women's Golf team was right behind them with a 3.28. In total, 25 additional student-athletes finished above a 3.40 GPA and will be honored as Keuka College Scholar-Athletes.
Overall for the Green and Gold, 109 different student-athletes finished above a 3.40 grade point average for the 2016-17 academic year, 37% of the department. In total, the Keuka College Department of Athletics finished with academic year with a 3.06 cumulative grade point average.
